SCMP on July 11 said that the Chinese government has ordered tightening disease control in areas of the border province of Yunnan to prevent the Covid-19 outbreak in the border area with Myanmar.
Health authorities said that on July 11, Ruili city bordering Myanmar reported 12 new cases of Covid-19 infection.
Other areas in Yunnan province also ordered tightened epidemic control over the weekend, including Mangshi and Longchuan counties.
So far, there have been no new cases outside Ruili city.

This Chinese border city, which has close trading ties with Myanmar, was one of the areas prioritized for Covid-19 vaccination earlier this year.
This latest outbreak occurs as neighboring Myanmar is struggling to fight the most serious epidemic wave since the pandemic broke out.
