Recently, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin announced that the tournament will undergo some drastic changes from the 2024/25 season.
First and most notable among them is that the traditional group stage is being scrapped.
Each team will be guaranteed 8 matches, of which 4 home matches and 4 away matches will be played within the specified 10-week period.
The new format of the Champions League promises many changes.
During this stage, the top eight teams automatically qualify for the knockout round.
From the round of 16, a tennis-style seeding system was also established.
The draw is also set for a revamp, with the tournament notably being drawn via computer.
If drawn manually according to the new format, the draw will take about 3-4 hours and require up to 900 balls.
Due to four more teams competing in the Champions League from the 2024/25 season onwards, the Premier League could have a fifth team eligible to participate.
If these rules had existed over the past five years, England would have won another Champions League spot in four of those five campaigns.
And the final spot will go to the domestic champion who qualifies for the competition through the `Champion Pathway`.
There will be similar format changes in the Europa League and Europa Conference League in the following seasons.
The Europa League will follow the exact same system as the Champions League with eight matches taking place in the new tournament phase.
