After decades of dedication to her country’s sports, track and field star Nguyen Thi Huyen has decided to retire after the 2023 National Track and Field Championship ends.
Yesterday (October 24), the golden girl of Vietnam’s athletics village – Nguyen Thi Huyen officially retired from competition right after winning the gold medal in the women’s 400m event at the National Athletics Championship.
Explaining this decision, the SEA Games record holder said that at the present time, the young athlete class is advancing very quickly, will soon rise up and replace the position of the generation of seniors and seniors like Huyen.
In addition, the fact that my health is no longer guaranteed due to my age and wanting to spend more time taking care of my family are factors that affect my desire to retire.

During her decades-long playing career, Nguyen Thi Huyen has won many titles, glorifying her country’s sports in both domestic, regional, continental and international tournaments.
Called up to the Vietnamese athletics team for the first time in 2011, Nguyen Thi Huyen soon left her mark with a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay event at the 26th SEA Games held in Palembang, Indonesia.
However, it wasn’t until four years later that the athlete from Nam Dinh really made everyone know his name.

Having put aside her competitive career that year to get married and become a mother, Nguyen Thi Huyen, with extraordinary will and energy, returned to the track and continued to conquer other milestones in her career.
